One would never guess that one of Central America’s premiere herds of Red Brahman cattle is located just a short 20 minute drive from the center of Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua. On this beautiful 6000+ acre ranch, that overlooks Lago de Managua and the Masaya Volcano, reside some 230 registered Red Brahman cattle along with 3000 commercial cattle.

Seminole S.A., owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, was started in 1998 and part of the focus of this enterprise is the Red -Brahman cattle operation. The Seminole Tribe decided that it wanted to have a Brahman cattle herd outside of the U.S. and they appointed Calixto Garcia Vélez to be their Chairman of Foreign Affairs and International Investments.

Calixto Garcia Vélez has thirty plus years of experience with Brahman cattle and the recent results of the herd that he has put together for Seminole S.A. prove that he is a truly a great breeder. Calixto Garcia Vélez is an agricultural engineer by education and has a rich history in the Brahman industry.

Calixto started the herd for Seminole S.A. with 20 head of females that were included with part of the ranch land purchase. While these cattle were of excellent quality and pedigree, Calixto felt the need to utilize the newest genetics and available techniques for breed improvement. Implementing this desire in 2003, Calixto traveled to HK CATTLE in Rosharon , Texas and purchased five donor quality heifers and one young herd sire. In addition to this live cattle purchase, he also bought semen from the top HK bulls and some embryos. These genetics are the foundation of the outstanding herd of Red Brahmans Calixto currently exhibits at the shows and which can be found grazing in Seminole S.A.’s lush pastures in Nicaragua . 

Through the use of an intense breeding plan, artificial insemination and embryo transfer the Seminole S.A. herd has become a truly impressive herd of cattle. Seminole S.A. cattle have achieved the Premiere Red Brahman Breeder award three years in a row at the Central American Expica in Nicaragua .

At the 2006 Expica Seminole S.A. cattle won numerous awards including Grand Champion Female and Reserve Grand Champion Female, as well as Reserve Grand Champion Bull. But while these cattle are beautiful and do well in the show ring, they are also functional cattle. At Seminole S.A. they are using all of the latest technologies, such as Genestar data testing, in creating the best possible cattle available. With semen and embryos available out of this powerful herd, Seminole S.A. is truly impacting the Brahman World with their genetics.
